Voon Chen Thong was born in Mukah,Sarawak. His early and secondary education was in Sibu where he attended SR Sacred Heart reaching great heights in extra-curricular activities at school. In 1987, he left for Australia to continue his secondary and higher school. He graduated from the Australian National University (ANU) with the double degrees in law and economics in 1991. Upon his return to Malaysia, he initially chambered and practiced for three years in one of the largest law firms in the country, Messrs Shook Lin & Bok Advocates and Solicitors, Kuala Lumpur before finally returning to his home state of Sarawak. Voon enjoys traveling, computers and of course writing and reading as well. Presently, he is in private legal practice in Miri, Sarawak. He was one of the founding member of SOSWE since its formation in 1997. Upon its registration in year 2002, he was elected the President of the Society till today. Voon started his writing career early even at school by randomly contributing articles to journals. He continued his writing at university finally completing his Honours thesis for law. He was one of the author of a newspaper column called “Legal Eagle” for the Sarawak Tribune now known as The Eastern Times from 1998 to 2000. The column was generally to answer legal questions affecting the ordinary layman in everyday situation. His involvement in the area of voluntary work started from his young days. He was an active member and leader of the community in Miri. Voon believes that the world can be a better place if everyone can contribute his or her part to make it better.
